Abstract

Globalization poses great and important challenges for dominican universities, whose approach is still a pending task for Higher Education Institutions in the country. One of these challenges is produce a graduate with competencies to perform in a globalized world, dominated by the use of information and communication technologies, able to demonstrate a high level performance in an increasingly demanding labor market. Through the analysis of the main tendencies of management of universities of the first world, a set of characteristics is established that the dominican academies must exhibit to produce a graduate with these competencies. This includes, but is not limited to: The need for internationalization of universities; the responsibility with which they must assume knowledge and its new social function; take advantage of academic and research networks; encourage the creation of new educational models; reconfigure their management structures and adapt their infrastructure. In the end, some change criteria are proposed that could motivate a debate on how the current universities can produce an ideal graduate of global quality.
