Abstract

During the first 15 years of this century, Extreme Meteorological Events (tropical cyclones, heat waves, cold fronts, forest fires, droughts, etc.) have been a growing trend. The main purpose of this article is to carry out an analysis of Extreme Meteorological Events, with the aim of motivating decision-makers and the general public to reflect on the need to be prepared for the possible effects of these events. In addition, the article analyzes the impact of these phenomena on different aspects of daily life, such as: health of the population with diseases such as dengue, Chinkunguya, Zika, eye and skin irritation, among others, as well as in the economy of the country. In the particular case of the
Dominican Republic, located in the center of the Caribbean and its dependence on tourism and agriculture, preparing mitigation and adaptation plans with the purpose of being more resilient is an obligation of the state, as well as of the municipal governments.
